Missions

Jesus said in Matthew 25 “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

We seek to feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, welcome the lonely, clothe the unclothed, care for the sick and visit the prisoners. Jesus' number one priority was others, and we strive to do the same.

Zion Church partners globally and locally through the generous missions given by our amazing people.

Winterhaven Children and Youth Ministry

Winterhaven is home to the Quechan People, (pronounced Kwatsáan).  The Renteria family has opened their hearts & home to the Quechan people. Their work over the years has seen many come to know the Lord. Fort Yuma, Quechan reservation is located along both sides of the Colorado River bordering Arizona, California, and Mexico. It encompasses 45,000 acres.  The most recent figures from the tribal enrollment office state the Quechan population totals over 3,200 members.

Crossroads Mission

Crossroads Mission is a faith-based organization dedicated to helping individuals who find themselves at a "crossroads" in their lives. Their goal is to help them take that direction that will bring them to a personal encounter with God and help them make changes that will result in a better quality of life.

Global Missions

Mexico

Iglesia Imagina Naciones, pastored by Pastors Ralph and Diana, are reaching out to the city of San Luis, Sonora.

Open Arms Ministry

Open Arms was founded by Heidi & Daniel Elizarraraz. This ministry provides free daycare for the children of families that either have no access to daycare or cannot afford it. Daycare is not readily available in most of Mexico and even where it is available, it is usually beyond what most families can afford. Because of this, many children are left alone in less-than-ideal situations or are put into orphanages. Open Arms not only provides care for the children but also educational opportunities and gospel teaching. They have two established facilities and are currently developing a third.

Cambodia- New Life Fellowship Kampong Cham Church

Zion Church has worked with New Life Church in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for many years, starting with helping to put water wells in villages with poor access to water.  After putting in the wells, the church would begin to preach the gospel in the villages, often starting a church in the village. Then for a few years, we helped with a major church plant in the city of Kampong Cham. That church is now going strong and planting other churches.  Starting this year, we are helping support their church planters’ school, training men & women to plant new churches, and helping to better equip pastors that have already planted a new church.

Cuba - La Serrana

Pastors Reinaldo and Caridad Roque have planted a church in the village of La Serrana, an area with no previous gospel exposure.  Zion Church has not only helped support them spiritually and financially but has also been able to help with aid after Hurricane Irma destroyed their meeting building and did much damage to the village. In the summer of 2019, Zion Church purchased a motorcycle and a new battery equipping Pastor Reinaldo and Cari with transportation to get back and forth to La Serrana which is approximately 20 kilometers away from their home in Moron. Just recently they have begun to work in a second isolated village, doing benevolence work to open the doors for the gospel.

Destiny Rescue

Rescuing children from sexual slavery and exploitation. Zion Church Yuma mission dollars helped to establish the Noel J. Messer Mercy Home in Laos and the Barbara Brockway Mercy Home in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. We are currently supporting the establishment of the Jeb Bails Mercy Home in the nation of Uganda.

If Rescue is the starter’s gun, then Restoration is the marathon. This is where the long yet joyful healing process begins. Rescued children are taken to safe houses where they sleep safely, receive education, vocational training, counseling and healthcare, spiritual guidance and, most importantly, love.

Samaritan’s Purse

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse that provides gift boxes to millions of children around the world at Christmas time. These boxes provide an opportunity to share the gospel and thousands have received the Lord through this outreach. Zion Church has been the drop-off center for the boxes in this area for several years and we have encouraged the involvement of our congregation in filling gift boxes.

Sister Connection

Building homes for desperate widows in Burundi, Africa.

Why Widows in Burundi?

Sister Connection was founded after the 1993-2006 civil war to rebuild the lives of thousands of widows and orphans left without status or opportunity. 14 years later, Sister Connection serves a new generation of widows whose economic prospects remain bleak. Our purpose has shifted from the immediate needs of charity to self-sufficiency and entrepreneurial development. We restore dignity to our sisters by empowering them to thrive in independence.

In3 Sponsorship

Zion Church has committed to financially connect with 5 widows in Burundi to give her the resources she needs to become self-sufficient over the course of three years.

How It Works.

  1. Basic Support

She will receive a quarterly income to provide for her family's immediate needs of food, clothing, and medical care.

2. Vocational Training

She will participate in job training, and learn skills to improve her own subsistence farming.

3. Micro-enterprise

She will go through our micro-enterprise training, and receive a small loan to start her own business.

Special Missions

In addition to the regular ongoing support Zion Church provides, we are always open to special needs and projects. In the last couple of years we have been involved in providing help in Indonesia, India, Eastern Europe & other nations, as well as right here in our own city.

Mission Trips

Although the pandemic has put this ministry on hold for the last couple of years, Zion Church has sent teams and individuals to over 30 nations over the years for the purpose of medical aid, preaching & teaching, encouragement, and helping in whatever way possible.  These trips are a help not only to the pastors and missionaries with whom we work, but they also expand the vision of those who make the trip.
